When talking about the referendum, Brexit supporters say that the EU is irrelevant, as security is provided by the NATO alliance. Here is a point of view which highlights the fragility of NATO in a world changing fast.

If we look at the causes of the current situation on the US side, there is a clear cause to effect trace, leading from the Tea Party to its main sponsors and supporters: the Koch brothers, Murdoch and others. The Tea Partiers eliminated any and all moderate candidates from the Republican camp – and Trump is just one of the more extreme and visible offshoots, but not the only one.

Western unity, nuclear deterrence and standing armies gave us more than a half century of political stability. Shared economic space helped bring prosperity and freedom to Europe and North America alike. But these are things that we all take for granted, until they are gone.

 

We may be two or three bad elections away from the end of the liberal world order.
