Will Russia attack Ukraine? “There are no rational arguments, but Russia is not rational”

Paweł Wroński interviews Robert Pszczel, former NATO representative in Russia.

Pszczel makes the point that decision-making in Russia is driven exclusively by Putin, who doesn’t have a rational vision of the world. There is no reason to believe that Ukraine is a threat to Russia or that it would be in Russia’s interest to attack Ukraine, but that’s not the point – Putin has already mobilised his propaganda machine to justify an attack on Ukraine and it may happen, whether it makes sense or not. Putin seems to have already discounted Western sanctions in case of attack and he may be ready to take the risk – nobody really knows, including in Russia.
