Europe and Middle East

Nearly all Europeans had every reason to continue reprisals and revenge, after the end of WWII in 1945. Instead, with few exceptions, people got busy rebuilding their life, getting back to normality as far as possible. To the extent that mortal enemies made durable peace only a few years later. Some countries lost a high percentage of their population and vast territories – but they still decided to move on, come to terms and work hard to improve their life. Why is that totally impossible in the Middle East? Why is hatred more important than self-interest, self-preservation, than family and friends?
