Aurora shooting: gun lobby sincerely believes not enough people were killed

US mourns Aurora victims

If anybody is serious about bringing the people responsible to justice, they should go after the gun lobby, in the first place. Is it likely to happen? There is too much money to be made from selling weapons so, no, it won’t happen. True, it’s not guns that kill people, it’s people. But if you only have a knife or a handgun, you can call some damage, while if you have unlimited access to high velocity assault rifles, you can cause so much more damage. The speed limits on US roads are ridiculous, in comparison with Europe – to protect citizens from the consequences of speed. Then you give unlimited access to weapons, to the same citizens – tell me where is the logic? You may or you may not have a car crash and you may or you may not kill somebody in the process but, mostly, cars are for driving around. Don’t tell me that high-velocity rifles are just for holding or playing with, that they have any other purpose than to kill people, lots of them in a very short time.

Gun lobby: Denver opportunity to 'loosen' gun controls

Wholly predictable: the gun lobby says that, had there been other people with guns in the cinema, they could have defended themselves. Right, and I want to be in a cinema with a mad shooter and other idiots shooting at the shooter, without really knowing what they are doing and who they are shooting at. That would greatly enhance anybody’s chances of survival in the crossfire. Next time I go to a cinema in the USA, I want the assurances that there are trenches available, just in case somebody feels like venting a bit of anger.
