You would expect that within a single market, European viewers could enjoy TV services without the necessity to buy proprietary devices for each operator. That was the spirit of an EU directive, which has been ignored by all operators, starting with UK’s BSkyB, which uses the Sky Box. Each subscription package requires a proprietary tuner, costing a lot of money and occupying a lot of space under our TV sets.
